  • Diabetes mellitus is an endocrine disorder in which there is insufficient amount or lack of insulin secretion to metabolize carbohydrate.
  • Types
    There are three types
  • TYPE 1(IDDM)
    Failure to produce enough insulin due to loss of beta cells. Causes are unknown.
  • Type 2(NIDDM)
    Diabetes mellitus begins with insulin resistance a condition in which cell fails to respond insulin properly.
    Common causes are a combination of excessive body weight and insufficient exercise.
  • Gestational diabetes-
    Occur when pregnant women without previous history of diabetes develop high blood sugar level.

    • High blood sugar
    • Frequent urination
    • Increased Thirst
    • Increased Hunger
    • Numbness
  • Complications
    • Acute complication can include
    • Diabetic ketoacidosis
    • Hyper osmolor hyper glycemic state
    • Death
  • Chronic complication include
    • Cardio vascular disease
    • Stroke
    • Chronic kidney disease
    • Foot ulcer
    • Damage the eye.
